Two years ago, I held my mother’s hand as she took her last breath in her care home. She had been battling Alzheimer’s disease, a cruel condition that slowly erases the memories and essence of a person you love. As if that weren’t enough, she also had other health complications that led to her being prescribed a cocktail of medications. One of these was a cholesterol-lowering drug, something commonly given to older adults to reduce the risk of heart disease.
But what many people don’t realize is that cholesterol is not just a bad word—it’s essential for brain function. The brain is made up of nearly 60% fat, and cholesterol plays a key role in maintaining healthy neurons and cognitive function. Studies have suggested that some cholesterol-lowering drugs, like statins, can lead to cognitive decline, memory issues, and even an increased risk of dementia in some individuals. A 2009 study published in Pharmacotherapy found that 75% of statin users reported cognitive side effects, such as memory loss and confusion. Another study in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience highlights how cholesterol is critical for synapse formation and brain plasticity—meaning that reducing it too much could hinder brain function.
A Small Patch, A Big Change
One day, before she passed away while visiting my mother, I decided to try something different. I applied a small patch to her skin—a simple, non-invasive technology that uses the body’s own light to activate a naturally occurring copper peptide known as GHK-Cu. This peptide has been studied for its ability to support tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and even stimulate stem cell activity, which plays a vital role in healing and brain function.
The change was almost immediate. My mother, who had been lethargic and unable to recall what she had eaten just ten minutes before, suddenly seemed more present. Her energy improved, and her clarity of mind surprised even the caregivers. They started asking questions: What is this? How does it work? Can we apply it daily?
Unfortunately, the answer was no. The care home staff were only allowed to administer what had been prescribed by the doctor. If I wanted my mother to continue using the patch, I would have to visit her every single day to apply it myself.
A Regret That Turned Into a Mission
I wish I had. I regret not being there every day to give her what was so clearly helping her. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that regret can either paralyze you or drive you forward. I choose the latter. That’s why I want to share this with others who still have the chance to help their loved ones.
This Mother’s Day, Give a Gift That Truly Matters
Most people think of flowers, chocolates, or spa treatments when it comes to Mother’s Day gifts. But what if you could give your mother something far more valuable—something that could help her feel more alive, more energetic, and more mentally sharp?
If your mother is aging, struggling with cognitive decline, or simply looking for ways to support her body’s natural healing process, consider this as an unusual but life-enhancing gift.
